We invite applications for a Professorial role at Level E specialising in Mineral Geoscience in the

School of Earth Sciences within the Faculty of Science.

The School’s strong international research rankings reflect our focus on high quality research and impact, and strong capacity to attract competitive and applied research funding.  We have well established external industry/government agency engagement across all its applied areas in minerals, energy and groundwater that are fundamentally important to Australia’s economy. Research and research training activities are concentrated in several important Centres of national and international standing within the School including the Centre for Exploration Targeting (CET), Centre for Energy Geoscience and Centre of Excellence in Coral Reef Studies. We attract high quality PhD students from around the world and currently offer a variety of masters coursework degrees and an undergraduate major in Geology.

    The Opportunity

The appointee will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic research environment in the School of Earth Sciences and its Centre for Exploration Targeting (CET) which is recognised as a world leader in mineral geoscience. The CET has an impressive portfolio of research projects and collaborative relationships.  The appointee will be expected to provide leadership in mineral geoscience and be primarily responsible for the Centre’s external profile with the national and global minerals industry and governmental geoscience organisations.  We are interested in applicants who can develop new areas of research activity and graduate training. Expertise in mineral geoscience will enable the appointee to contribute to the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs and research supervision.

    About You

The appointee must hold a PhD in Geoscience with >10 years of postdoctoral and/or industry experience, and be a recognised geoscience leader and manager with a record of achievement in mineral exploration.  Having the skills to provide effective and inclusive scientific leadership is very important in this role, as is commitment to effective transfer of the CET’s outputs to the exploration industry.
